5 steps to take for a healthy mindset

Compassion fatigue can be a difficult obstacle to clear! Complications with the staff, projects put on hold – even maintaining an online business can be disconcerting when the guidelines and policies can be overruled by a third party host. Namely templates and programs you’ve ordered through a company that specializes in that particular field. If you’re a lot like me, you’d rather free up any distractions that will prevent you from achieving your goals! Take care of what you can and leave the rest for someone else who’s more qualified. Then wouldn’t it be necessary to be an expert in your line of work?

Studies have demonstrated that few people are emergent in their thinking (5%) and more about that Positivism and/or irrational enthusiasm (95%), meaning Americans today are more about quantitative, “no stress load” means than we are qualitative, “adaptive buffs”. Here’s how this goes:

The mind that is on vacation is a lot like the exercise machine that is collecting dust bunnies off the side of the bedroom; often people buy equipment and fail to use it. Some people have bought equipment without proper training, and people who fail at understanding the importance of the brain – even the basic functions of your organs - have made symptoms worse by not using the equipment properly. Yeah, embrace that inner ditz…

Please understand, technology has changed the industry today as we are growing more virtual! E-commerce! Virtual fitness classes! Zoom conference meetings!

Believe you me, marketing targets a specific demographic according to the product that is to be sold. Business then look for the best market research and competitive analysis to ensure their services are needed and required. Business partners look for qualified experts who exceed the criteria and demands of the services needed.

So enough background settings, let’s begin!

1) Aptitude Serum

Okay I definitely confirm – and this is my perspective bias – Divergent to be hands down a good analogy, and I’m going to run with it. That film analysis society in high school + class in college has = been the grail to my Monty Python, the Greenland to my Iceland, the bane to batman. In theory, it relates more to dramatics than actual literature analysis though kudos for highlighting the biases the producers are going for: more art than anything, if you ask me. The more serious roles are the visionaries, those who seek to use their camera utilizing theatrics to reflect society as a whole. What’s more impressive? Survey says “Ethics with and solutions with concrete evidence” – in that evidence leads to the truth and not our presumptions and/or biases.

Pop culture Easter egg question:

The 5 guiding virtues in Divergent are

1) Tribune districts in the Hunger Games?

2) A means of reparations found in the Giver?

3) A rite of passage like found in Harry Potter?

4) A cure for humanity found in Thomas in the Maze Runner?

I’ll leave that for you to contemplate. There may be weak analogies comparing to what is pop culture, they all have some things in common: Books that became movies - two of which ran during the same time as the other - dystopian literature, and have themes that relate to a working genre as a whole toward an ideal, than random and/or strategic framing specified for one biased purpose. To be honest that is still a stretch. This line of questioning pertains more to literary analysis that anything, which is my case and point: scheming for your own personal pleasures kind of detract from the objective of DEVELOPMENT. If you want to detox your mind, development is the anchor to climbing, the essence of courage over fear!

“Every experience has its own horizon; every experience has its core of actual and determinate cognition, its own content of immediate determinations which give themselves; but beyond this core of determinate quiddity, of the truly given as "itself here," it has its own horizon. This implies that every experience refers to the possibility” –Edmund Husserl

“Experience of itself is not science.” –Edmund Husserl

“The objective of a discussion is not for playground insults but it’s essential means to weed out any expressional claim that doesn’t reproduce development and value to concrete structures of social existence.” – Jon A. Aguirre

Let’s discuss mindfulness!

Mindfulness: The practice of purposefully bringing one’s attention in the present moment without judgment (calmly acknowledging ones feelings, thoughts, bodily sensations); the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. A therapeutic technique.

Since adolescence, we are required to attend elementary, middle school, high school. University, however, is based on merit. Here in America, education is the vehicle for e pluribus unum. Horace Mann once said “Education is a capital to the poor man, and interest to the rich man.” As far as getting into college, that depends on your willingness to utilize your efforts into realizing your potential.

Ever sat next to someone you thought was attractive in college and realized that they were as smart, as dedicated, as competitive as you if not more? School system must have been rigged, because you weren’t in the spotlight anymore? That’s kind of the point with growing up. The older you get, the more layers of the societal onion are pulled away – you’re a small existence in a game whose rule books and guidelines are quote on quote “life experience” yet really the rat race of society. “Work sucks, I know” was the national anthem of apathy, and we had collectively sunken the means of “unity” at the bitter waters of the “all permissible” dunk booth. We let personal and political expectations determine our societal standards, when we should let developmental awareness be the back story to our social existence. This must be said, that to understand and come to terms with your limitations can prepare you for playing your strengths and learning how to manage the areas outside your expertise.

I had an invaluable lesson taught growing up by my middle school teacher. May this set the stage for your mentality, as it did to me: Some people are more talented then you at something- doesn’t mean you should sulk and “prove” your worth. We can’t all play at the same time, but we can make the team. Acceptance of both your strengths and weaknesses are the foundations to calmly assessing the state of your mind.

There is truth in genetics. Our bodies have a biological set point; a weight the body is unwilling to give up for your health.

Fixed? Not to say the least. Influence your environment; influence your biology’s responses.”

– Jon A. Aguirre

The “aptitude serum” by this societal standard is as follows: What did you learn? Can you replicate that knowledge?

The educator’s intentions are not to “train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of genius in each.”

Plato said some pretty statements, though we should also add this to complete the thought: subjects taught now should not differentiate from the accuracy of history, as truth is the thread that binds us together. In fact, cosmopolitan issues are derived from a common tongue- one where truth encompasses the basic needs of human beings.

I’ve heard it this way: cruelty is a result from weaknesses whereas truth is the means to confronting power. This is my opinion, and it should be mentioned that the key to healthy conversations is acknowledging our differences and correcting our information if it proves contrary to reality as we know it: America doesn’t have a race problem. She has a reasoning problem.

If you wish to see a template of a detailed conflict resolution strategy that I had developed years ago as the head of a department in an nonprofit organization, to go the website – the link is on my twitter handle: Modern Medic – and feel free to fill out the green form with the subject of the title, Conflict Resolution.

2. Organized, biofeedback and neurofeedback for healthy brain function:

This topic alone merits a course in of itself, so I’ll give a quick briefing on the topic. Quick question: to avoid confused looks and, I don’t know, cognitive distortions? What do you say not to get ahead and interpret this topic alone? In this brief time we have together, may I remind you that it is my priority to give you concise information so “that others can… its personal.” Your time is valued, so I’ll come prepared and announce within the next few weeks, a short course and/or workshop covering your inquiries in detail, and relax! I’ll break it up into three categories: Social awareness, Situational awareness and Biological/physiological awareness.

1. Social

Phenomenology: a human science method. Because of controversy, we need to know right now is it is a complex traditional philosophy that has influenced many philosophical movements today. Phenomenological inquiry may be explored and studied in terms of the following topical domains: orientations, sources of meaning, methodology, methods, writing, and practice.

Phenomenological sociology: is the study of the formal structures of concrete social existence as made available in and through the analytical description of acts of intentional consciousness.

Social consciousness + social existence theory: Collective self awareness and identity.

2. Situational awareness

Time slice theory of consciousness: we are not continually aware of our surroundings therefore logical positivism isn’t always true because the laws of quantum physics. Realistically we can’t be in total control.

Positive reinforcement: a type of operant conditioning with the best results.

Determinism: the doctrine that man’s decisions and actions are determined not by free choice but by antecedent causes acting upon his character.

3. Biological/physiological

Quantum biology: the study of applications of quantum mechanics and theoretical chemistry to biological objects and problems.

Biofeedback: is a method of gaining information by monitoring skin temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, brainwaves, and other body conditions to help promote control over normally involuntary bodily processes through conditioning, also called operant conditioning and relaxation.

Neurofeedback: an subdivision of biofeedback where you give feedback from brain functionality, the amplitude (percentage) of which these brain waves that are working harmoniously with other functional brain waves, and assess neurological issues.

3. Sensory stimulation Therapy

I would like to commend you, reader, for taking the time to invest your time looking over this blog. Be assured, aside for the sake of time being the key factor; I guarantee to aid you in unfolding these truths, regarding mindfulness, for the purpose of achieving optimal health. Little known fact, being mindful has a lot to do with understanding your awareness of your situation – whether physiological, cultural setting, or mindsets. If anyone would care for coaching, please feel free to fill out the green form on the website, and I’ll return the favor with coping strategies and methods. As of right now, Beyond The People’s Corner Foundation is solely taking individual coaching sessions though rest assured, our horizons are in steps for coaching business leaders – as stated on the website. With that being said, here are some insights in a integrated holistic approach:

You’re familiar with the 5 senses: taste, touch, smell, hear, sight. The aims of this kind of therapy is in recovery from somatosensory function after stroke or cognitive aging. The brain has this thing called, the basal ganglia which consists the ventral striatum. You attempt to take an action - neuroscience, and really biofeedback - and you will show gamma brainwaves. Interesting fact, gamma brainwaves enables concentration, where your body shows interest and will attempt to learn new behaviors. When the habit becomes ingrained, the behavior becomes “second nature,” and beta brainwaves switch out for gamma brainwaves - this causes your body to start problem solving/detail oriented tasks.

Learning something new brings attention and focus, but when it becomes routine, things tend to get tedious and menial. Ever had that feeling of being bored with the same routine? Discipline, organization and detail orientation are the factors in determining your progress towards mastery. Then, I suggest it’s imperative to reinforce the routine with good and healthy rewards. Studies have shown that the lack of motivation causes inactivity in neural stimuli because the body acts in this regard: new behavior = increased attention. Neuromuscular efficiency = stimulated signals are no longer required. A method I suggest is to journal. This will help you organize your thoughts over the course of the day, refer back to notes and reinforce good behavior because it’s a natural to lack “motivation.” Motivation requires permissible parameters and risks to stay afloat without physiological, psychological, and social harm and/or recovery.

A little known fact about myself, I’m a recovery athlete – had suffered insomnia, major depressive episodes, and endocrinal problems due to dehydration and malnutrition. This is common for athletes who compete and it is my personal imperative to stress and advocate recovery training: I would be one of many competitive athletes who have in one way or another suffered bodily harm – whether that is physiological, psychological, or social withdrawal. I grew up as a Pastor’s kid, and have always been a firm believer in Christ- became a pastor, where my recovery process began serving others. Goal setting, a drive for success, and therapy and medicine has been my journey to recovery today. However I’m a firm believer in domain expertise, so I strongly advocate professional help and refer to those who are specialized, 7+ years in their respective line of work.

If you are experiencing memory issues or attention deficit -even overstimulation as found in ADD/ADHD- please feel free to fill out a form on the website - my Twitter handle has the link: Modern Medic - and I’ll return with a few methods and activities that utilizes sensory stimulation therapy and depending on your situation, refer you to a specialized professional.

4. Neuroendocrine effects in homeostasis

We can probably avoid unnecessary problems and strife in life by knowing and remembering that feeling something is rarely proof of anything. The correlation of age and peak levels of activity is inversely related: The older you get, the more complications happen – especially true to overstressing fatigue. You are not a victim of your experiences but a byproduct of your decisions. Allow me to demonstrate:

Endocrinology: is the study of medicine that relates to the endocrine system; the system that controls hormones.

Behavioral endocrinology: is the scientific study of the interaction between hormones and behavior. This interaction is bidirectional: hormones can affect behavior, and behavior cansend feedback to influence hormone concentrations.

Suprachiasmatic nucleus: anatomy term for each pair of small nuclei in the hypothalamus of the brain, above the optic chiasma, thought to be concerned with the regulation of physiological circadian rhythms.

May I inform you that these medical terminologies are crucial to understanding homeostasis – the determining factor to optimal health. Physiological awareness can resolve unnecessary problems, as it is my observation that true oppression – which breeds cruelty – is of the innermost parts: physiological, psychological, and social identity are the big three tiers that prevent growth and escape into behaviors that are self sabotaging (referencing Newsletter #1).

Behavioral endocrinology states that we tend to make decisions based on –not limited to- hormonal mood swings. Being the 95%, perception is altered by what we feel. Not to feel alarmed, awareness of these simple truths can lead you into the 5% statistics:

➢ Hormones nudge and influence our behaviors.

➢ Thoughts are the vehicle to emotional attitudes and behaviors

➢ Good hormone management is key

Neurology tells us that behaviors are adaptive by what we tend to conceive in our thoughts. We can potentially learn to limit cognitive dissonance through healthy habits and affirmations. Good, conscious thought patterns can lead to good attitudes and realistic expectations. Please seek professional help if you need guidance to make this possible.

Sleep and exercise and good nutrition are needed for a healthy mind. A healthy mind is a sound mind!

Pop culture fact:

Beloved icon Mr. Rogers was an ordained Presbyterian Minister. His kindness and words of wisdom demonstrates his impact on air and off set, as shown in the 2018 documentary, Won’t you be my neighbor?

Physiologically speaking, hormone management are as follows:

The central nervous system affects the immune system through these contacts:

➢ the neuroendocrine humoral outflow via the pituitary

➢ direct neuronal influences via

o sympathetic, parasympathetic (cholinergic) and peptidergic/sensory innervations of peripheral tissues.

The functionality:

➢ circulating hormones/locally released neurotransmitters and neuropeptides regulates these major immune functions:

o antigen presentation

o secretion of cytokines and antibodies

o selection of regulatory T cell (white blood cells) subsets responses

o lymphocyte activity

o proliferation and traffic.

The body's response to stress is to exercise triggers (systematic series of neuroendocrine and immune events) for directing the immune system back to a state of homeostasis. Here’s a simple approach:

Physical exercise presents a unique physiological stress

➢ increase in physiological demands = nueroendocrine and immune system activity + adaption towards anti- chronic overload

I assure you; these adaptations alleviate the magnitude of subsequent stresses and/or minimize the exercise challenge to within homeostatic limits.

The memory capacity of the cells involved is specific to the adaptive immune response:

➢ once a specific antigen is encountered, memory cells, or lymphocytes, mount a response

➢ This reduces the magnitude of the immune response to a follow up stress encounter.

Needless to say, neuromuscular efficiency is the means towards hormonal management. Please refer to blogs, Cognitenance and Kisses and Kale for insights in integrated steps for neurological maintenance and nutrition

5. Serenity

People can’t accept people because they can’t accept their behaviors. Disdain for others usually results in an attribute we struggle ourselves. Apart from your environment, there is inner conflict. My failure to describe my environment corresponds to the reality of the environment as it truly exists. Think in terms of a crowded brain; if your unable to determine the cause of your headache and attentive distractions, your thoughts will slip into spiraling out of control. You will do the following: mental burn out and switch your left brain into right brain emotional responses - logical/consciously attentive to emotional/unconsciously attentive. Needless to say, our human bodies need a balance of the two; there’s no harm but being in the extreme of the two. Emotional intelligence is needed to guide your emotions - not to subdue them - but express them in healthy quantities. Then, it is counterproductive to bottle your feelings. That is the recipe for hormonal imbalances we are trying to avoid!

Rule of Thumb: I’m not accountable to others’ version they created of me but of what I intentionally aim to be. They are they, me is me. At the same time, I will never measure up to any standard if I can’t resolve my inner conflict.

The stoic Serenity prayer goes like this:

God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change... Courage to change the things I can, And Wisdom to know the difference.

A method to approach: First ask you, do I want to do this selfishly or altruistically? Pick the first; choose anything pertaining to my preferences - Tunnel vision. Pick the latter, and so, choose anything pertaining to development.

If you’re a Christian like me, our standard is scripture. The Old Testament is pedagogical in bringing conviction, and a conscious awareness of my need and dependence in God, The New Testament is liberation from failure that serves as a rule of Life for believers.

Be refreshed today! Allow these truths to guide you towards managing your mind better; take the good and the bad, and detox the toxins that are preventing you from optimal health.

This article is an introduction and continuation from what is implied/applied in newsletters and blogs before. There will be other blogs inter-related, which will be another wave of information from before, yet in depth. I highly suggest signing up as I also include strategies and methods in congruence to the topic at hand.
